Doing more – becoming more and achieving more is surprisingly easy.
Last month, I bumped into a friend of mine whom I had not seen in a while. After exchanging pleasantries. The following we had the conversation below:
Yours truly: What have you been up to these days?
My friend: well, I’ve been doing a lot of work lately. I’m writing my book, working on my music video, have been doing design and editing work for clients, I’m learning Spanish and you know we’ve resumed school so add that up to academic work.
“Wow, that’s a lot!” I exclaimed. “How do you manage to do all these things.” I asked.
Suddenly, my friend’s countenance changed. All the vibes and vigour he had disappeared.
Alas, he was not getting anything done. He struggled to find the words to tell me what he had achieved.
He was simply being busy but he was not achieving anything.
He wasn’t productive.
Like many people today, he has neglected a profound truth – less is actually more!
Less is Actually More
Too often people continue gathering more and more tasks in a bid to do more. But this is usually counterproductive as it spreads your efforts over many tasks.
I call this the paradox of Activity
Focusing on a few things and doing them well will almost always give you a better result than trying to be a jack-of-all-trades. It shifts you from being busy to being effective.
Can you now see how doing less is actually more?
Deciding to do less is invariably saying ‘no’ to many other things but this is the only way to saying a firm ‘yes’ to the things that matter. This mindset shift is necessary to growing into your desired life. Doing less is actually doing more!
Embrace doing less in order to do more – doing more has never been better defined.
Don’t try to do everything rather just do something that way you’d survive to reap its fruits.
Doing less is actually doing more!
